Color time!

Hi friends!

It's been a busy week but I'm here to share a card that I worked on over several days and finally completed this morning. I'm entering it in two different challenges. The first is Simon Says Stamp and Show where the challenge is to use color on your cards. And lastly, Simon Says Stamp's blog that has an "anything goes" challenge. LOVE those! :) Here's the sketch and my card:

I used the Cuttlebug Embossing Plus folder called Perfect Perennials and then inked the embossed areas using Salty Ocean distress ink. Love that vibrant blue color! I also added a few gems to the centers of the flowers to give them a bit more dimension. Then, I took some strips of cardstock and inked those with the salty ocean color also. The butterfly is from Stampin' Up and I used my inktense watercolor pencils to color in the wings. I then added some glossy accents to those and love the look of it! I then realized I had forgotten to color in the butterfly's body so I used my vintage photo distress marker and used it as a watercolor to color in the body. I free handed the antennae and the swirly flight pattern. Then, I added some orange stickles next to one strip of the blue paper and added some dots of orange around the butterfly. I really like that color combination and the pop of orange was perfect! For the sentiment, I inked up some white cardstock with the same distress ink and then heat set it. After it was dry, I used versamark for the greeting and then embossed it. That way, the whole card has colors that match. The card took me several days to complete but mostly because of lack of time--not b/c it's too complicated...

Hope you all can play along and thanks for stopping by!

Have a super fun b-day! card

Hi all!

I hope everyone had a good week and you're all as excited as I am for the weekend! I hadn't had time to craft til today so I'm super excited to share the card I made this afternoon. I'm combining three challenges--each of which has a GREAT prize and are a lot of fun! First up is the incredible Simon Says Stamp blog. They're celebrating their 4 year birthday and they're offering some AMAZING prizes! Second, is the Lawnscaping Challenge site that challenged us to emboss something...a technique that looks fabulous on cards! And last, but certainly not least, is the fun V's Sweet Ideas site. I've played along before in their challenges and have purchased things from the store--GREAT customer service and GREAT products, too! Their challenge was simple--anything goes! You can't beat that! :)

Below you'll find the challenge badge and my card: I wanted to use one of the Simon Says Stamp products that I love. I used the Fresh Daisies die as the main image on the card. I also used Memory Box's Piestra Tile die--isn't it lovely? I layered that on some red pattern paper and love how elegant it looks! Then I embossed the brown card base with the cuttlebug's Musical Flourish embossing folder. The sentiment is from Hero Arts and I cut out a banner and added some inking around the edges and some red gems to finish off the card. It's a simple yet elegant card...just how I like it! :)

Have a wonderful weekend!

Play Date Cafe challenge

Hi everyone!

It was another quiet day at my house. Kids are missing their dad but enjoying the break they're getting from homeschooling. I've enjoyed having the big chunks of time to scrapbook and I even had time to make a card tonight, too!

Play Date Cafe
had a 2 week challenge this month. Here was the color combo they wanted us to use on our card:

I took on the challenge because, to be honest, if there's 2 colors that I really don't like it's yellow and green. And this challenge had 2 shades of green. I know it's very Christmas-like colors but I really don't like green. I was actually surprised to find that I even had green cardstock on hand b/c I'm not a fan of the color--at all! But, that's part of the fun of the challenge--using colors you wouldn't normally use and trying to make a nice card.

Here's my take:

I started out w/the lighter shade of green as the base and then the darker shade of green on top. I embossed it with the flourish embossing folder using my cuttlebug. Then, I used my flower inchies stamp set from inkadinkado and stamped the red flower on cream cardstock. I punched them out using an old square creative memories punch. I added some red ribbon and some bling and stamped the sentiment and the card was done. Not sure I love it but it could just be the color thing getting to me... :)

I think you all have a few more days to play along in the challenge if you have time. Hope you're having a great week!

MOJO Monday time!

Hi everyone!

Well, my crafting time continues! I hope all of you are getting a chance to play, too, although I know that this time of year is busy for most...

This was the sketch for this week's Mojo Monday.

And here's my take:
I started out with brown cardstock that I embossed using my cuttlebug and the flourish embossing folder. I added the ribbon and then a line of pearls along the top of the ribbon. I stamped the sentiment and flowers (Hero Arts) and inked the edges of the white cardstock with vintage photo distress ink. Done! :)

Off to catch up on some scrapbooking...that'll be my project for the next few days.

Have a happy and healthy 2012!

Another sympathy card

Hi everyone!

I hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas time with family. I am currently at home with my 2 sons while my DH is visiting his grandmother in Mexico. Since I HATE going into our bedroom when he's not home, I put on a movie, lit a scented wax candle, and made some cards!

Although it's a sympathy card, which I do not enjoy making, I figured maybe it wouldn't be so dreary if I combined it with a few challenges. First up was the Lawnscaping Challenge. It's all about texture for this challenge and I knew I'd be embossing one way or another! :)

The second challenge comes via Young Crafters Unite. Their challenge was to use dies on a card. I love dies!

Here's my card:

I started out by using my cuttlebug embossing folder (flourish, I believe) and embossed white cardstock. I cut it in 3 strips and adhered that to the black cardstock. I then stamped the sentiment from Hero Arts and matted it on black cardstock. I believe the flower is from Inkadinkado and I wanted a pop of color so I used a cranberry pigment ink from the $1 bins. I cut it out using a spellbinders label. For a little bling, I added a gem in the center of the flower and the card is done! I love how it turned out, too. It's simple yet elegant.

Will be back tomorrow with a Mojo Monday card. Hope everyone is having a good start to the week...Wow--last week of 2011!

Thanks for stopping by!
